Monthly Reads - March 2009

Seriously, I can never decide whether time has gone by too quickly or too slowly? What do you think? On one hand, it seems like March was sooooo long. Partly because of my reading slump and blogging blues. At the same time, it feels like only last week since I did my monthly reading list ^_^;

Anyway, this month's reading list goes as followed:

1) Industrial Magic by Kelley Armstrong: A

My absolute favorite book in the series. First, I really liked the plot and second, every character (that has been introduced up to this book and has a significant role) is in here. The werewolves, Paige, Lucas, Samantha, Jaime and the vampires, etc. They're all in this book and it's just a riot to see some of them interact with each other :)

2) A Summer to Remember by Mary Balogh: B

Bought this one based on Leslie's re-read challenge entry for February. Didn't enjoy it as much as Leslie, but still a nice and cute book. I guess I didn't connect well with Lauren and I really disliked Freja.

3) Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh: B

Buddy or three-way review coming up at Breezing Through :)

4) Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh: --

5) Perfect Hero by Samantha James: B-

6) Flash by Jayne Ann Krentz: C

Meh, typical JAK book. Very similar to Trust Me in fact where the heroine has to take care of her whole family with her business. What disappointed me is that the hero was the guardian of two 18 y.o. boys and they just weren't present. They could have been a riot to read... Otherwise, like I said, meh. Nothing special about this one.

7) Wicked by Any Other Name by Linda Wisdom: B

Cute book. Might review it... or not. Not a fan of Jazz, but was curious about her witches friends. Might buy the other books in this series (not the one with Jazz as the heroine though).

8) Danger in a Red Dress by Christina Dodd:C-

Buddy review with Jill for Breezing Through whenever Jill gets to read it :)

9) Falling in Love by Pauline Trent: B

10) The Shadow Queen by Anne Bishop: B+

11) Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner: B/B+

Review to come.

12) King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner: A

Review to come.

13) Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione: B

So I'm not a fan of incubus or succubus characters. Sue me. I had this one in my TBR pile and was curious, because the series's been getting a lot of buzz... A LOT. I like the idea of an underground hospital for paranormal creatures... but I thought the whole world building was too busy. Too many creatures, too much going on... and didn't like the heroine too much ^_^;

14) Paradise Valley by Robyn Carr: B

Review most likely to come...

15) Hunting Fear by Kay Hooper: A

16) Touching Evil by Kay Hooper: --

17) Out of the Shadows by Kay Hooper: --

All right, so I read more books than I thought I did, despite the reading slump ^_^; I just suck at estimating I guess. The three books that didn't have a grade (Slave to Sensation, Touching Evil and Out of the Shadows) were re-reads. They didn't get a grade because of my mood... I was feeling blah and it showed when I was reading ^_^;

My month is also very pitiful when you count the reviews ^_^; So sad. I guess that's what happens when I review too much the previous month. I get burned out ^_^;

Anyway, hopefully, my reading and blogging mojo will be back for this new month :) The fact that there's so many new releases will surely help. In the meantime, I have to work on a presentation for next week... NOOOOOOO!!!

  1. It's tough when the mojo takes a hike, eh?
    I think you still did really good, though :)
    There are a few on your list that you make me want to read, so yay.

  2. That's an impressive list. I think I managed 13 ~ I'll have to check.

    My daughter is reading the Megan Whalen Turner trilogy and really enjoying it.

    Sorry you didn't like the Balogh as much as me. :(

    I used to read JAK books then just got bored with them.

  3. A C- for the Dodd book. Oh no, it's not looking to good then. I am going to try and read it sometime this month. I don't have any ARC's that I have to read, so at least I don't have that hanging over my head, LOL! I can't believe I am complaining about that. Sheesh!

  4. Hmmmm...I see three here that didn't get the highest of grades...all on my TBR list. Uh-oh.

    Hope your reading mojo returns--after it's done partying out somewhere with mine.

  5. Seneca - It's lethal and dreadful when the mojo escapes you!!!!

    and yeah, surprisingly, I did pretty good number-wise... but there was a few lull between reading sessions. Sigh.

    Which one do you want to read?

    Leslie - The joy of being single and unattached, LOL :)

    How old is your daughter, Leslie? They say The Thief is for 9-12 y.o... which I kind of agree... However, the Queen and the King books are more mature in my opinion... Although they were very good and I enjoyed them soooo much! :)

    It's fine for the Balogh. As a rule, I'm not such a fan of historicals... so it is really just me ^_^;

    Yeah, I get you on the JAK. I understand why that happened.

    Jill - Yep, a C- on the Dodd book. Can't wait to see what YOU thought of it :P

    and LOL, I understand about the ARC. It's fun to receive one, but it puts pressure on you to read and review. I don't do well under pressure ^_^;

  6. That would be Pleasure Unbound.
    Also, I'm not surprised about the Dodd review. Her historicals are all so much better.

  7. I think you did great with the reading but you can't fight the mood. I don't do monthly recaps cause it's embarrassing. I'm just glad to be reading again!

    Get your blogging mojo back! I miss you!

  9. LOL about the number of books you manage to read with your reading mojo missing.

    I'm looking forward to reading your reviews for the Megan Whalen Turner books. I heard good things about them.

  10. Seneca - Ah :) I hope you'll enjoy it more than I did... however, I think you will :)

    As for the Dodd, I've never read her historicals, so I can't say. However, she's not my favorite contemporary romance author. I find her style a bit brusque..

    Cindy - I did. I actually was very surprised to have done so well. Your monthly recaps would probably be hilarious!!! :)

    I'll try to get back :) I think my mojo is knocking at the door ;)

    Jace - LOL :) Yeah ^_^; It felt worse when I was trying to read.

    Taja - Oh, my review of the Thief series is coming!! My advice? Head to the bookstore :P

  11. The Ione series...while I liked the first book I thought the second was much better. But that's just me.

    Impressive list you have there. I'll have to take a second look and see what I'm interested in. :)

  12. Tracy - I was trying to figure out which series you were talking about, LOL... I didn't start any Lone series... and then, I realized it was ione LOL :P

    Well I don't know, I really usually have a hard time with succubus and incubus characters - male or female. So I'm thinking maybe this is just not for me.
