Hauling Sunday XLV

Another week has gone by... Seriously, where does time go? I mean, in not too long, my week-end will be over and I'll have to go back to work :( Why? Oh why? LOL. Yeah, it's pretty much the same lamentations ^_^;

Work has been busy. My boss is pushing hard so we get some stuff done before I go on vacation. Yes, they can't function without me! LOL. Plus, next week (gosh, next week already!), there's the annual Men's Health Day which is an event to raise awareness about men's health issues. Duh. However, that means we're getting a lot of clinical samples and my boss wants everything analyzed within 3-4 weeks... Yes, he plans to kill us - especially since I'll be gone for a week during that time. The worst though is that he keeps changing his mind about his plans. Like somehow, we're doing an experiment and now I'm going to have to prepare 60 samples for it. Anyway. His choices. And then this summer, I'll have 3 summer students under my supervision... My lab is tiny! 4 is pretty much the limit capacity and now, we're 5! Yes, we're going to step on each other's toes, sigh.

Anyway, enough about work. My room is a mess - as usual ^_^; I need to clean it, just so I can make room for my new precious from RWA LOL. Also, I want to purge the bookshelves a little so I can give away some of the books when I'll be in NYC :P Speaking of RWA and NYC, my plans are coming along... There's still lots of things up in the air, but at least, I know when I'm heading to NYC and when I'm coming home LOL. Still need to sit down and take a look at that list of authors :) It is really intimidating LOL.

Now, let see what books I got this week :) It'll be no surprise at all LOL

Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh - Really, do I need to tell you why I got this book? LOL. Definitively the most anticipated book of the summer in my opinion :) And it lived up to expectations and it's been getting great reviews :)

Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews - I really enjoyed the last couple of releases in the Kate Daniels series and Ms Andrews has become an auto-buy for me :) So picking up Magic Slays was a no-brainer even though the blurb was so-so. However, can I tell everyone how misleading this blurb is?!?

By the way, did anyone notice that they tweaked up the cover of Magic Slays? When the cover was first revealed, there was definitively something weird in it... I say it was the boobs LOL. Here, take a look:

Original on the left and official on the right. See the magic of photoshop? LOL. She definitively seems to have less boobs and it somehow make the cover LOL. Well seems like someone at Berkley reads blogs and I'm glad :)

And oh, I did another quick stop at the library yesterday and here's what I added to my pile :)

So if all goes well, I only have one more book to buy... Hexed by Kevin Hearne and that should be it till RWA. Yep...

  1. You're right about the boobs on Magic Slays.

    What's All of Me About? it has a puppy on the cover so I'm interested. :D

    Great Loot :D

  2. Interesting about the cover of Magic Slays. One definitely has more boobage.

    I know the feeling of being bombarded right before a vacation (and right when you get back, too). Hang on there and think about how much you're going to love your vacay this year!

  3. Nice books this week. As soon as I have finished the book I am currently reading I am picking up Magic Slays. I've had it for a week now and I can't believe I haven't read it already. So not like me.
    Happy reading.
    Sally.

  4. Sounds like your boss is making you earn that vacation! Only a couple of weeks until NYC. Remember to take lots of pics. :)

    The cover change was needed. The increased boobies were so obvious when it first came out. Glad they changed them. LOL

  5. I like the left cover of Magic Slays better, okay more book but the right one doesn't seem right either. I read Kiss Of Snow too last week and inhaled the romance factor, the plot was interesting but didn't impress me all that much as a concluding story arc. Which reminds me, I still needmto write my review *eek*

    Have fun at the RWA!

  6. Nath, you're definitely going to need a vacation by the time it comes up. You poor thing.

    Well you received two books, but they're the good ones! You're so right about the blurb for Magic Slays... it was not really a good one, but LOL on that cover. Taking away the highlight from Kate's boobs did the trick... she doesn't look like Lara Croft anymore. *g*

  7. Alex - Hmmm, it's part of a series of four friends and a magic wedding veil. I read two of the books and liked it enough. The fourth book is the heroine who's an attorney who gets betrayed and is jobless. She goes to a newly inherited cottage to lick her wounds, but find a gorgeous man living there. So they agree to become roommates... I've read mixed reviews about this one which is why I haven't bought it... Not sure it has a dog in... LOL.

    Lori - I know! Although I think the only difference really is the shadowing :)

    I know, I know. I also think it's going to be too short ^_^; sigh. Ah well. In the meantime, I have to survive! ^_^;

    Sally - What are you reading, Sally? I thought Magic Slays was very good :) Sure you're going to have fun times with it :)

    Leslie - Yes he is! Grrrr. I had such a bad end of day, sigh. Five persons in the lab is definitively too much!

    Actually, I looked at Magic Strikes and cover model has a lot of boobies as well. I guess it just wasn't as obvious!

    Leontine - Really? LOL, the rest is the same... so the position in both is kind of wrong. Ah well. Not the greatest cover in either case.

    I don't know, I had a little bit of problem with Sienna and Hawke's romance. Loved Lara and Walker though!! I enjoyed the story... to tell you the truth though, I don't think she's ending the story arc there. From what I've read, she has maybe 3 or 4 books left to this series. Wouldn't make sense to switch to another city... so I'm guessing the next few books will have to do with the war... and the end of it.

    Hilcia - I know!! LOL, at the same time, I can't believe how fast it's approaching! Scary really, since there's stuff ahead of it that I don't wanna do ^_^;

    True true. Good books :)

    LOL at the Lara Croft comment!
